Steve Kaul

Steve Kaul sings and performs with Martin acoustic and Amistar single cone, tricone & tenor resonator guitars. He plays and sings traditional folk, rapid-fire fingerstyle country blues and his own songs with an intense energy. He has performed for over 18 years in the midwest and has played selected shows on the west coast and Europe, including performances and workshops at the Minnesota Resophonic Guitar Festival and the Northeast Folk Festival.

Using a variety of open tunings Steve draws inspiration from the old guitar masters such as John Hurt and Reverend Gary Davis and modern fingerstyle gurus like John Fahey and Leo Kottke. His songwriting is strongly influenced by Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen and Warren Zevon.

In 1994 he formed the Americana trio - the New Grass Heads with engineer Leo Whitebird and indie rocker Mike Gemberling. Their 1996 release 'Lost Episodes' garnered critical acclaim and helped launch the label Dream Horse Records.
Steve is working solo again. He released his debut CD - 'Utah Sun' last year.
